Collect marketing consent on the account component

Shopify Adds Marketing Consent Checkbox to Account Component
Shopify has added a marketing opt-in checkbox to the account component on storefronts. The checkbox appears below the email field and allows customers to subscribe to email marketing lists during the sign-in process.
Technical Implementation
The new checkbox shares the same email marketing opt-in setting used for checkout. Merchants can enable or modify this setting through Settings > Checkout > Marketing opt-in in the Shopify admin. When customers select the checkbox and complete sign-in, they are automatically added to the merchant’s email marketing subscriber list.
Impact on App Developers
Developers building customer account features or email marketing integrations need to account for this new consent collection point. Apps that manage subscriber lists or sync marketing preferences should verify they properly handle consent data from both checkout and account sign-in flows.
This change creates a second touchpoint for collecting marketing consent beyond checkout, which may affect how apps track subscriber sources and manage consent records. Developers working with the Storefront API or building custom account experiences should review how this checkbox integrates with existing account components.
What to Monitor
Apps that customize the account component or modify sign-in flows should test compatibility with the new checkbox. Developers may need to update their consent management logic to distinguish between checkout-based and sign-in-based subscriptions if their apps provide detailed subscriber analytics or segmentation features.
The unified opt-in setting means changes to checkout marketing preferences will also affect the account component behavior.
