More admin intents now support Settings

Shopify Expands Admin Intents API with Seven New Settings Options

Shopify has added seven new Settings intents to its Admin Intents API, allowing apps to open specific Settings sections as contextual overlays. The update expands on the initial Settings intents release from March 2024.

New Settings Intents Available

The seven new intents cover:

Notifications

  • edit:settings/NotificationsSenderEmail
  • edit:settings/NotificationsStaff

Payments and Gift Cards

  • edit:settings/PaymentsManualCapture
  • edit:settings/GiftCardsExpiry

Delivery and Business

  • edit:settings/DeliveryProfilesDefault
  • edit:settings/BusinessDetailsAddress
  • edit:settings/BusinessDetailsContactEmail

Impact for App Developers

Apps can now direct merchants to specific Settings fields with a single API call. The API opens the relevant Settings section as an overlay and automatically scrolls to the target field, reducing the steps merchants need to take when configuring store settings through your app.

This functionality applies to apps that guide merchants through setup workflows or need to prompt configuration changes in Shopify’s native Settings. Instead of providing written instructions for merchants to navigate Settings manually, apps can now trigger the exact Settings page programmatically.

Implementation Details

The Admin Intents API uses the same pattern across all Settings intents. Apps call the intent, Shopify handles the navigation and overlay display, and merchants see the specific field highlighted within the Settings interface. This maintains consistency with Shopify’s existing admin navigation patterns while giving apps more control over the merchant setup experience.
