Shopify Rolls Out Native Address Format Validation for Checkout

Shopify has released address format validation as a built-in checkout rule, available to all merchants through Settings → Checkout → Checkout rules → Address format validation. The feature blocks non-compliant shipping addresses before checkout completion, displaying inline errors that buyers must resolve to proceed.

The validation rules apply consistently across online storefronts and agentic experiences. When a buyer enters an address that doesn’t meet format requirements, they receive immediate feedback and cannot complete their purchase until the address is corrected.

This release deprecates the Checkout Blocks Address Blocker extension. Developers who built apps using the Address Blocker will need to migrate merchants to the new native validation system. The native implementation removes the need for custom address validation blocks in most use cases.
