Shopify Adds App Activity and Permissions Dashboard in Admin Settings
Shopify has released a new dashboard in the admin Settings that displays app activity metrics and permission details. Merchants can now access this information by navigating to Settings > Apps in their Shopify admin.
What’s New in the Dashboard
The dashboard provides three categories of information for each installed app:
Admin API activity shows the number of API requests each app made across different store areas over the past 30 days. This gives merchants visibility into how frequently apps interact with their store data.
Data privacy displays which apps have access to sensitive customer data and other personal information. This section helps merchants identify apps with access to protected data types.
App history tracks when staff members granted updated permissions to apps, creating an audit trail of permission changes.
Impact on App Developers
This update increases transparency around app behavior for merchants. Developers should expect merchants to review API usage patterns and data access permissions more closely when evaluating their app stack.
Apps making high volumes of API requests may face questions from merchants about why they need frequent store access. Similarly, apps requesting access to customer data will need clear documentation explaining how they use this information.
What to Monitor
Developers should audit their app’s API request patterns to ensure they stay within reasonable limits. The 30-day visibility window means merchants can identify apps that make excessive requests or access data more frequently than expected. Apps should implement efficient API usage and request only the permissions necessary for their core functionality.
