Filterable Logs and Health Metrics Arrive in Shopify’s Developer Dashboard
What Changed
Shopify has added performance monitoring and diagnostic tools to the Developer Dashboard for custom apps. Developers can now open any custom app and view API request volume, error rates, webhook delivery health, and embedded admin page load speed. Each metric includes a defined threshold, allowing developers to quickly identify whether performance falls within acceptable ranges or requires attention.
Alongside these health metrics, Shopify has introduced a single filterable log stream that captures every API request, webhook delivery, and app event in one place. A redesigned dashboard home page now surfaces which apps need attention across a developer’s entire portfolio, rather than requiring manual checks on each app individually.
Why This Matters
Previously, the Developer Dashboard focused primarily on app configuration and setup rather than runtime behavior. This update shifts the tool toward operational monitoring, giving developers visibility into how apps actually perform in production. For teams managing multiple custom apps across different merchant stores, this reduces the need for third-party logging or monitoring solutions to catch basic issues like failed webhook deliveries or elevated error rates.
This is particularly relevant for Shopify app developers building on the Admin API, webhook infrastructure, or embedded app frameworks, where silent failures can go unnoticed until a merchant reports a problem.
Practical Implications
Developers should audit their custom apps against the new health thresholds to establish a baseline. Because the log stream is filterable, teams can isolate issues by request type, endpoint, or event category when debugging integration failures. Given that this feature targets custom apps specifically, developers with public or partner apps should confirm whether similar monitoring capabilities extend to those app types or remain limited to custom app installations.
