Rollouts queries and webhooks in the Admin GraphQL API

Shopify Adds Rollouts Queries and Webhooks to Admin GraphQL API
What Changed
Shopify has introduced new query capabilities and webhook support for Rollouts in the Admin GraphQL API. Apps can now programmatically discover and inspect Rollouts through two new query methods: the root rollouts query, which lists and searches all Rollouts, and rollout(id:), which fetches a specific Rollout directly by its ID.
These queries expose details about each Rollout’s schedule, traffic allocation percentages, and the resource changes associated with it. Shopify has also added webhook notifications that fire when Rollouts change, allowing apps to react to updates without polling the API.
Rollouts in Shopify represent coordinated, often temporary configuration changes across store resources, including discounts, catalogs, themes, and checkout and accounts settings. They are commonly used for staged launches, A/B experiments, and time-limited promotional events.
Why This Matters for Developers
Prior to this update, apps had no direct API access to Rollout data, making it difficult to build integrations that respond to merchant-initiated experiments or phased feature launches. Apps that manage pricing, theming, checkout customization, or catalog data can now sync their internal state with active Rollouts rather than operating independently of them.
This is particularly relevant for apps that modify storefront behavior based on merchant configuration, since conflicting or unaware changes during an active Rollout could produce inconsistent customer experiences.
Practical Implications
Developers building apps in these affected categories should evaluate whether their app logic needs to account for in-progress Rollouts. Implementing the new webhook subscriptions allows apps to detect Rollout changes in near real time rather than relying on scheduled polling, which reduces API rate limit consumption and improves responsiveness to merchant-side experiments.
